Carpentry as a career

We all know who a carpenter is. He is a skilled craftsperson who performs carpentry. They work with wood to construct, install and maintain buildings, furniture and other objects. The work involves a lot of manual labor and may also involve working outdoors.

There is no any specific study to be a carpenter; this can be gained through experience and study. If one has the required skills, then it is easy for the person to get started with this profession as all it requires is basic skill and with experience one can become a better carpenter. In some countries, it is easy to be in this profession but in countries like Germany, Japan and Canada there are strict standards.

In British and Australian slang, a carpenter is sometimes referred to as a "chippie". Usually you will find men taking up this profession. This is considered to be the fourth most male-dominated occupation with 98.5% of men being in this profession. There are different types of carpenters such as the finish carpenter, trim carpenter, cabinet maker, ship’s carpenter, scenic carpenter, framer etc.
