Responsible for working under the direction of the project Foreman in a safe manner & assisting entire crew to assure projects are completed timely & in a cost effective manner. Understands the construction procedures as it pertains to installation of fiber optic cable both underground & aerial. Employee in this position performs duties of average difficulty requiring initiative & independent judgment under some supervision. Operates heavy & light construction equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, air compressors, drill rigs, trenchers, hydraulic reel trailers & other types of machinery & assures maintenance of these as required. Ability to communicate effectively with both internal & external customers as it relates to job progress. Assist with on-site installation of both aerial & underground fiber optic cable.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Calling in locates Utility discovery Prepare entry & exit pits Prepare slurry as needed Complete “tie-ins” on conduit Complete drilling logs & production reports Restoration as needed Saw cutting experience Vacuum Truck or trailer unit experience (mandatory) Core drilling of hard surface Traffic Control set up & tear down Maintain a clean work site to include all equipment Ability to locate utilities for drill rig operator (mandatory) Travel out of town may be required Knowledge & operation of heavy construction equipment Dig /drill holes & trenches using power equipment Abide & follow company policies & procedures Adhere to company & OSHA safety standards Abide by construction codes and standards and safety standards Assist Foreman in assuring jobs are brought in on time Able to read & understand prints, maps & construction plans Ability to work with limited supervision Notify foreman of unanticipated field changes & suggest possible alternatives Document deficiencies in safety practices/equipment to foreman Demonstrate willingness for continuous self-improvement Demonstrate conscientiousness & dependability to produce results Recognize company goals & maintain spirit as well as letter of the rules Assist in training new employees as directed Must promote company loyalty among fellow employees Receive & follow direction of Foreman Participate in all safety training meetings Perform work in quality & workmanlike manner Contribute your fair share in the daily workload Maintain an open & friendly demeanor with fellow employees & customers Inspects vehicles & equipment prior to & after use, including checking fluid levels & tire pressure to ensure their safe & proper operation Driving trucks & equipment to job sites On call duties as required Attend available splicing training at the discretion of the PM/Foreman (optional) Maintain a CDL (Class – A), Medical Card & a good driving record (mandatory) Assists in preparing reports on project status & crew activities. May perform other administrative work as required utilizing computer or laptop & integrated software Assists in coordinating & performs confined space entry in compliance with approved departmental policy & industry approved safety procedures in designated confined spaces Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position
Work Relationships and Scope
Reports to Project Manager. Interaction with all field staff and management. Occasional interaction with customers and outside vendors.
Measures of Performance
Technical knowledge of the industry and equipment , quality, quantity, accuracy, timeliness and thoroughness of work performed; ability to communicate effectively and to develop strong working relationships with others; ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Prefer at least 2 year of experience in fiber optic construction. Knowledge of and experience with reading blue prints. Must be flexible and patient. Must be able to: plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively; work under pressure and time deadlines; analyze problems, propose reasonable solutions; make logical decisions, carry out decisions made; communicate effectively, written and orally. Requires a valid CDL (Class -A) driver’s license, Medical Card and a good driving record. Out of town travel and overnight travel required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed at the customer’s job-site and cities across the USA . Must be able to lift 100 pounds. Good dexterity a plus. There is exposure to work related injuries when working on the job sites. Job requires lifting, bending, climbing, walking, repetitive hand motion, digging, ect.. Accurate visual depth perception. Work performed for this position is mostly outside & involves exposure to inclement weather, loud noise, active machinery, vibration & confined spaces. This is a fast paced work environment.
Equipment Operated
Working knowledge of hand tools, various power tools, heavy equipment (directional drill, backhoe) and test equipment for this type of work.

Texas continues to lead the nation in drilling activity, and by a bunch.
The state has 840 rigs drilling for oil or gas – about 47.7 percent of all U.S. rigs and 26.3 percent of all rigs worldwide, according to the latest Baker Hughes Rig Count.
Most of the Texas rigs are working in the Permian Basin (402), the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas (232), the Granite Wash in the Panhandle (41), the Barnett Shale in North Texas (32) and the Haynesville Shale in East Texas (17).
