Oil Rig Roustabout Jobs

Oil rig jobs pay well. Of all the jobs where you do honest work for money, working on an offshore oil rig arguably pays the best. In many cases, you can get paid double the rates for doing the same thing, e.g. an oil rig welder makes around $62,000 but a factory welder makes only half of that. Of course, there are exceptions that do not translate well, for example scaffolders. On an offshore oil platform, a good scaffolder makes around $55,000 to $60,000, but on a construction site a scaffolder earns $5 to $7 an hour. The money is not the only good point. You typically only work 1/2 to 2/3 the number of hours as a regular job in a factory or construction yard.

Mind you, we are only talking about entry level rig jobs here, not management or skilled positions. An experienced driller who can drill a deep sea well should be able to earn $100,000 a year. For management, $100,000 a year is definitely on the low end. A new petroleum geologist or petroleum engineer can make around $80,000 to $100,000 right out of college.

But what if you not only do not have a college degree, you also do not have a trade skill? What if all you have are your guts, a good attitude and a strong fit body? Does it mean you have not chance of getting to work in the lucrative oil and gas industry? Not so. The bulk of jobs on an offshore oil rig are roustabout jobs. These are truly entry level offshore jobs that need no experience. Because of the recent downturn, there are some who only get $35,000 a year. But the normal pay rate is around $45,000 to $50,000. Maybe $55,000 if you have more than 10 years experience and work in a unionized location.

So how do you do find roustabout job vacancies? If you are new to this field and do not have the connections, it can be difficult breaking in. The big job boards like Monster and Career Builder do not usually show blue collar or unskilled work like oil rig vacancies.

The best way to find oil rig roustabout jobs on offshore oil rigs is arguably through networking. Open your mouth and talk to everyone you know. Continue to keep in contact with them. Theoretically, if you just talk to 7 people a week, and each of them talks to 7 more, and those 7 talk to 7 more, nearly a million people will know that you are looking for a roustabout job offshore. In reality, you may need to talk to a hundred people in order to find the 7 who will remember you and care enough to ask other people.

Why go through so much trouble? Because many job seekers get their oil rig roustabout jobs through word of mouth. They talk to a friend of a friend, and that friend two steps removed is in a position to hire or recommend a roustabout for the oil rig he works on. In this field of work, a personal recommendation counts for much. The crew on an offshore oil rig is pretty tight knit. It comes from working together under difficult physical conditions for long periods of time. If a worker a hiring manager respects says, “Let’s give this guy a chance”, he will at least talk to you in an informal interview. If he says “OK”, all you need to do is submit a simple one-page resume which will be rubber stamped by HR and you could start work within a week.

If you get hired for offshore vacancies for roustabouts, you will find the work tough. You will work 2 weeks or 3 weeks of 12-hour shifts before you get any time off. Some of those shifts will be at night. You will work in hot weather, in cold weather, in rain, in snow, and even in strong winds. You may find yourself fighting fires, and you may have to work in high places. But remember this – for facing all this hardship, you are getting paid extra. If you do the same work in a construction yard, a trawler, or a port, you only get paid half of a job offshore on an oil platform.

Lowboy Trucking Jobs

Home CDL Info How to Get Trucking Jobs Types of Trucking Jobs Lowboy Trucking Jobs Jobs In Trucking Thursday, November 10. 2011 Lowboy Trucking Jobs Lowboy trucking jobs offer a wide range of opportunities for truck drivers. The type of lowboy job a driver will have depends on the experience of the truck driver has will determine the range of material that he is permitted to haul. A lowboy truck with a fixed gooseneck usually has a longer deck length. Longer lowboys tend to indicate that drivers are hauling longer materials such as trees and pipes.

The trailers that consist of a fixed neck find that they must sacrifice their ability to detach and load over the front. This constriction will definitely create limitations on the different types of products capable of being hauled. Not every product can be hauled in an enclosed semi. When it comes to hauling large pieces equipment or materials, a lowboy truck is the only way to get the job done.

The lowboy truck driver must be an expert in the type of lowboy trailer that is being driven in order to properly understand how to shift the weight when the vehicle is on the highway. Unfortunately for the driver, roads are not straight. He will encounter curves, inclines, hills, mountains, and other obstacles which could hinder his ability to get the product to the proper destination. The expert driver understands all these things and is well suited to handling the lowboy truck.

The lowboy truck driver must not only obtain his CDL certification, but he must also attend truck driving school specializing in handling lowboy trucks. In some states it is necessary to get a permit to drive certain pieces of equipment on a lowboy truck. Usually, the trucking companies take care of any permits that are required for the truck driver and the materials that are to be hauled.

The lowboy truck driver must be twenty-one years old, pass the CDL test, and take regular drug and alcohol tests. Usually, a lowboy truck driver works for one major trucking company so that they will be familiar with the material that they are hauling and the route.

ing jobs can be very dangerous and account for many accidents on the highways. When a lowboy trucker has a heavy load of product like lumber, for instance and they are going through mountains, the load can shift, causing the truck to overturn.

This displacement of goods has always been a concern of the trucking company, and that is why there are now different lowboy trucks available to handle the different types of products. The lowboy trucks now have different suspensions so that they can handle the shift of goods, which makes it helpful in controlling and preventing accidents. The lowboy truck driver needs to be able to handle several different types of trucks. This will enable them to handle different types of products.

Local Trucking Jobs

Local Trucking Jobs - Jobs In Trucking #serendipity_banner { background-image: url(/uploads/bgHeader.jpg); background-position: left top; background-repeat: no-repeat; } Skip to blog entries Skip to archive page Skip to left sidebar Skip to right sidebar
Home CDL Info How to Get Trucking Jobs Types of Trucking Jobs Local Trucking Jobs Jobs In Trucking Thursday, November 10. 2011 Local Trucking Jobs Local trucking jobs are very important because they assist in the development of the economy and a driver’s local community. About 95% of all items that you have in your home were at one time or the other driven somewhere by a truck driver. Local trucking jobs are important because they offer an opportunity to provide a vital service to the community while maintaining the ability to return home on a nightly basis.

Local truck driving jobs involve the delivery of goods between different communities. These trucking jobs are not too demanding because they do not require a driver to leave his or her general area, so the driver is not required to spend a night away from his or her family. Companies delivering packages to businesses and houses regularly employ local truck drivers. They are also known as delivery and pickup drivers. Local truck drive work alone most of the time, but in certain cases where they have large packages or sensitive materials to deliver, they may require helpers to render assistance in offloading and loading the items. The drivers may also handle cash, paperwork, or some other important information relating to the delivery.

There are several tips that will assist drivers who are looking to find local truck driving jobs:

Most of the time local truck drivers operate trucks that weigh an excess of 26,001 pounds which means they are mandated by law to obtain their CDL certification.
A driver should have important certifications for a local driving job if it involves the handling of hazardous materials, oversized loads, or specialized vehicles. These certifications are not required for every truck driver, but if a driver’s job involves any of these hauls, he must stay up to date on these changes in the transportation industry.
An average company hiring a local truck driver pays about $15.45 per hour. A driver may earn much more than this depending on his employer, routes, and the type of packages that he will be handling. In addition to the basic pay, a driver can also earn overtime for extra work done outside of normal working hours. There are also special rates, which can reach about $23.20 during holiday delivery times.
Truck drivers who are the most qualified have the easiest time finding employment. Local driving jobs are some of the most competitive, but they offer rewards such as the opportunity to spend every night at home with your family.
There are several rules that a driver should follow if he wants to be successful performing a local driving job:

A driver should never use a cell phone when driving.
A driver should always watch his speed.
He should make use of the techniques of smooth merging when facing entrance lamps.
He should always be careful when you are traveling through any construction zone.
e.A good truck driver always communicates with his fellow truck drivers, especially concerning road conditions like traffic jams, detours, construction zones and delays caused by bad weather or accidents. This keeps him up to date on speed traps, and helps the driver move around traffic when necessary.

Over the Road (OTR) Trucking Jobs

Over the Road (OTR) Trucking Jobs - Jobs In Trucking #serendipity_banner { background-image: url(/uploads/bgHeader.jpg); background-position: left top; background-repeat: no-repeat; } Skip to blog entries Skip to archive page Skip to left sidebar Skip to right sidebar
Home CDL Info How to Get Trucking Jobs Types of Trucking Jobs Over the Road (OTR) Trucking Jobs Jobs In Trucking Thursday, November 10. 2011 Over the Road (OTR) Trucking Jobs OTR truck driving jobs are not for people interested in 9 to 5 jobs which allow for them to return home on a nightly basis. OTR trucking jobs can be very demanding both physically and emotionally. These truck driving jobs require hard work and determination, but at the end of the day, the great salary makes the job well worth the effort.

OTR truck driving jobs require the driver to drive trucks for long distances, meaning that he may be away from your home for an extended period of time. This is the most common type of job available in the transport industry, and it is typically the starting point of many drivers. There are some OTR drivers who have covered all 48 continental US states as well as Mexico and Canada. These drivers may be away from home for as long as six weeks at a time. Of course, OTR drivers are not required to be on the road for such an extended period of time, but they will earn a lot more money if they are willing to work these difficult schedules.

A driver will always be rewarded for the sacrifice that he puts into this type of job. A majority of the people involved in this type of truck driving earn more than $55,000 per year, excluding medical benefits and all other bonuses. To have an idea of how profitable OTR trucking jobs are, take a look at this simple calculation. Assuming that a driver is working for 60 hours a week, which is very common, and he covered an average of 100,000 miles per year, your annual salary would be as follows:

60 hours a week X 52 weeks = 3120 hours a year
Optimistic level - $55,000/3120 = $17.63 per hour
Pessimistic level - $35,000/3120 = $11.22 per hour

In the first few weeks of starting OTR truck jobs, most people always find it difficult to adapt to the new system. However, with time this schedule and lifestyle becomes very interesting. To these drivers, the jobs have become part of a lifestyle that is full of fun. OTR drivers are usually referred to as professional tourists because they have the opportunity to visit different parts of the country, meet new people every day, and eat great food while having their bank accounts increasing due to the thousands of dollars they earn each month.

For an OTR truck driver, the permanent place of residence is always an important thing to consider because he may discover that he is paying for an apartment without really making use of it, especially if he is not yet married. Some other good things that an OTR driver can enjoy is that his company may give him permission to take his truck home. If someone proves to be a good, reliable driver, and he is not a troublemaker, he may even be allowed to use the truck as a personal vehicle when at home. This could replace the need for a car even at home. Therefore, over-the-road jobs can really help you in life.

Oil Rig Job, Offshore Salary, Offshore Jobs

Oil Rig Job Oil rig workers at the oil rig

All my life I worked at offshore oil rig. Often my oil rig job was about hard work under rain on a windy day, but despite this I found my job very challenging and exciting and I always felt accomplished and satisfied with it. I was always sure that this was a job that I always wanted to have and I would not exchange it for anything.

I started working at a oil rig at the initial annual salary of $50,000 and retired when my salary was slightly below $160,000. Nowadays when I think of my career choice, I can say that choosing oil rig job was the smartest choice that I made in my entire life.

Nowadays I am retired, I receive generous pension and I have large investments in a real estate. I spend my evenings with my grandchildren: Maggie, Jenny and Bobby. I have plenty of free time, so I decided to share my life experience with those, who are thinking to move into offshore sector.

There are 3 things that you should take into account, when you are looking for an oil rig job:

1. Your resume must be inline with offshore employers’ demands – offshore employers seek for very specific details of your biography. They are not interested in whether you are good at playing chess, fluent in Mongolian language or know Biology very well. This is important because the employer will throw away your resume, if he / she sees unneeded information there. Your resume should really stand out.

For resume writing you need professional approach. I advise you to use this Resume Writing Service. The service is absolutely FREE.

2. Complete Training Course for Oil Rig Jobs – this is not a must, but completing such a training can increase your chances of getting employed on oil rig job.

Training courses for oil rig job is delivered by Maritime Drilling Schools. They usually focus on drilling and safety issues. Such courses are also delivered by EnForm (highly reputable company with 50-year experience and PetroSkills that is relatively young company established by consortium of oil producers.

3. Deliver your resume to Offshore Employers – this is the most difficult part, but at the same time the most important. Oil rig job vacancies are rarely announced online, so what you need to do is to collect addresses of offshore employers and send them your resume.

The problem is that it may take quite a lot of time to collect e-mail addresses. So what I recommend you is using this vacancy site. The service is paid, but it provides following benefits:

- sends your resume to over 1,200 offshore employers by 1 click;

- you continuously receive new oil rig job vacancies for FREE;

- it is cheap, you spend only 7 cents per employer;

- you get the lifetime membership and you can use this service anytime you want;

Believe me, it is worth it. You invest a little and you receive a job that can pay you $60,000 as a start.
