This position is contingent upon award of contract:
SOS International Ltd. (SOSi) is seeking full-time Pashto/Dari Linguists to provide operational language support to U.S. Government operations in CONUS and OCONUS locations. Successful candidates will be able to interpret and translate written and spoken communications from Pashto and Dari to English and vice versa during interviews, meetings, conferences, and other events. Personnel can expect to live and work in area designated as an Imminent Danger and Hostile Fire Zones. Personnel must meet U.S. Government standards for deployment to OCONUS locations.
Responsibilities of the Pashto/Dari Linguist:
Interprets during conversations and meetings often in a high threat contingency environment Prepares idiomatically correct and technically accurate translations of critical, sensitive, and unformatted material; material will be written by and for subject matter experts on a wide range of highly complex scientific, technical, and military subjects Writes and speaks in clear, concise grammar and pronunciation in the target language and English Conducts consecutive, accurate translations, and summarizations of material Provides idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression to and from the target language and English Reads and translates handwritten material Scans and processes material, utilizing the target language for critical and essential elements of information Counsels, persuades, negotiates, and may represent a point of view
Requirements of the Pashto/Dari Linguist:
Minimum of High School diploma required Minimum of 2 years prior experience for similar services and similar conditions in support of DOD or equivalent agencies is required Proficient in target language and English and able to achieve a minimum score of 3 on the ILR scale in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages Must be willing to be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information Understands speech (in a standard dialect), inferences, and emotional overtones and rarely needs to ask for paraphrasing or explanation Writes effectively in most formal and informal exchanges Understands all styles/forms of speech and has a strong sensitivity to sociolinguistic and cultural references Able to deal unobtrusively with the local populace Familiarity with and ability to conduct oneself in accordance with the local culture and customs Functions as an integral member of a team of highly trained professionals responsible for the safety and security of personnel and resources Willingness and ability to work cooperatively with U.S. forces and personnel in austere conditions Knowledge of local culture and customs and ability to interact unobtrusively with the local populace
Additional Information:
Personnel must be willing to work in harsh and austere locations, including possible warzone Functions during a level of heightened state of threat, during extended periods of high pressure and stress Ability to perform a 3 mile hike with a 30lb pack in less than 90 minutes Work environment is often stressful and detail oriented
