The Housing Rights Center's mission is to actively support and promote fair housing through education and advocacy, to the end that all persons have the opportunity to secure the housing they desire and can afford, without discrimination based on their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income, or other characteristics protected by law.
HRC serves L.A. City, L.A. County, parts of Ventura County and has a main office in Los Angeles. HRC has a full-time staff of 25 and offers the following services: (1) Housing Discrimination Complaint Investigation, (2) Legal Services, (3) Outreach and Education, and (4) Landlord/Tenant Counseling.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Outreach Coordinator will:
?Work closely with Director of Outreach & Education to plan and conduct community workshops, presentations, and training sessions.
?Research new media opportunities/contacts and develop relationships with local media.
?Maintain outreach program records.
?Assist with improving fair housing outreach and education materials and developing new fair housing outreach and education materials.
?Coordinate mailings of outreach and education materials.
?Assist with the preparation of annual reports, agency newsletters and miscellaneous reports.
?Solicit financial sponsors and in-kind donations for HRC events and programs.
?Assist with planning HRC outreach and education events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a demonstrated interest in civil rights and social justice issues.
Must be well organized and able to meet multiple deadlines.
Must have excellent time management skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and feel comfortable with public speaking.
Must have reliable transportation to travel throughout the Los Angeles Co. and Ventura Co.
HRC provides mileage reimbursement.
Occasional weekend, evening hours/ flexible schedule.
Knowledge of landlord-tenant, fair housing laws and Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
BENEFITS: Starting salary range $30-35,000 depending on experience. HRC offers an excellent benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance. A 403(b) retirement
plan with employer contribution is available after one year of employment.
