Plan, organize, and direct effective administration of the nursing service department.
Staff the department with competent personnel.
Participate in developing patient/resident care plans.
Handle emergencies and complete incident reports.
Inspect department areas on a regular basis for deficiencies in the environment and in nursing care.
Serve as a consultant to administration on admitting and discharge/transfer policies and procedures.
Assure R.A.I. is completed accurately and conforms to Federal O.B.R.A. laws.
Review resident/patient complaints and surveys and make changes as necessary.
Review monitoring results and implement corrections and recommendations of the various committees.
Develop/revise safety policies in cooperation with the safety director. Develop infection control policies in cooperation with the infection control nurse.
Maintain department administrative records.
Keep Administration informed on department activities and resident issues.
Promote public relations and good interdepartmental relations.
Comply with facility-wide policies and procedures.
Maintain professional growth and development and keep abreast of the nursing field, particularly in long term care.
Current Registered Nurse License with current CPR
At least 3 years experience as Director of Nursing
Good mental and physical health, sound judgement and high moral standards.
Excellent writing and communication skills
Ability to mentor and train staff.
