Structural Engineer - Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC - Houston, TX

Description:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for performing and overseeing professional level engineering analysis of structures and related components for the Company’s land based drilling rig fleet.
Key Relevant Tasks
Perform computer modeling and analysis of drilling rig mast and substructures per current API guidelines.
Maintain computer analysis software and latest API documents pertaining to drilling rig structures.
Support in-house operations with structural repairs to mast, substructures, and related drilling rig components and new designs.
Create professional level engineering reports of structural analysis.

Job Requirements:
To qualify for the Structural Engineering position, an individual must willing and able to safely perform the following activities:
Occasionally travel, via airplanes or automobiles, to drilling rig sites, rig construction yards, and supplier facilities.
Demonstrate clear communication skills and ability to give work directions concerning structural engineering issues.
Perform field measurements, create sketches, and gather necessary documentation at drilling rig sites, rig construction yards, and supplier facilities.
Physically able to climb steep stairs, navigate rig construction areas and related worksite structures wearing designated personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Comply with Company and customer safety regulations at all times
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
Possess current Professional Engineer’s License
Experience with structural analysis software program and generating computer modeling for structural analysis of drilling rig mast and substructures per API guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum five years’ experience in drilling rig mast and substructure computer generated analysis .
Certification: Professional Engineer License
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Additional Details
Work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. five days per week. Extended work hours can include evenings, weekends, travel time and occasional holidays as necessary.
This position is typically in an office but could require exposure to weather conditions on field assignments that will expose a person to cold/heat, dust, and high wind in the areas of operations.
This person must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties.
Must be able to work effectively and productively with others, communicate well, and perform under time-sensitive deadlines.
