As a long time reader and admirer of slate, I have often complained about the fact that there are pretty much zero Visual Arts content on the site (although, to be honest, they are only one of a handful of culture publications that ignores the category, and their new photo blog is great). I was so excited when I saw that they had published a piece about the art world and Art Basel Miami Beach yesterday--until I read it.
The essay comes from Slate columnist and fashion maven Simon Doonan, who officially the creative Ambassador at large for Barneys department store. Sweet entitled "why the Art World Is so disgusting", it contains eight "theories" about why that is the case, start with "Art Basel Miami" can be (is it catty point out that he "Beach" was?) and work through categories like "blood, poo, sacrilege and porn," "The post-skill movement," and "a go-go Adderall."
