Senior Structural Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior PMC Civil / Structural Engineer to join a Project Management Team based in Cairo. Applicants should have experience in a PMC role.

Primary requirements:

- The successful candidate will oversee the EPC contractor and so work on a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) basis. As such it is crucial that you have substantial Civil / Structural experience within the Oil & Gas industry.

- The successful candidate should in addition to having technical expertise, possess strong leadership / negotiation skills. The position will involve interface with the contractor's engineers. Candidate will be required to ensure the client's project specification are observed by the Contractor and be able to provide strong technical opinion.

Other requirements:

- Membership of a professional body and Chartered Engineer is highly desired.
- Active CPD.
- Extensive experience in Oil & Gas or related industries.
- Proven PMC experience.
- Overseas experience is essential, experience in the Middle-East / Egypt will be desirable.
- Good level of spoken and written English
- Green and brown field experience, desert location

In this role, you will play a major role in the structural engineering and design of brownfield work for large modules/topsides for offshore oil & gas platform facilities. You will take a hands-on role in the design and analysis of structures as well as providing supervision/guidance and coordination to junior engineers and designers.

You will have previous experience in the engineering of decks and modular units for offshore oil & gas platforms, including the design and analysis of topsides, appurtenances and related secondary structures.
You will also have experience with and be familiar with SACS, AISC APR RP2A (WSD & LRFD) softwares and processes applicable to offshore structural designs. We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to be based between York and Reading offices for a 6 month Contract with the possibility of permanent placement.

Ideally with a good civil /structural engineering degree and with significant experience in industrial structural design.

Experience of fabrication and of gantry crane design desirable with Good civil/structural engineering design office experience essential.

Proficient at computer aided design and good knowledge and experience of engineering design and detailing, covering steel, concrete masonry and timber design, with particular emphasis Steel and concrete codes, particularly for heavy industrial structures, preferably combined with steelwork fabrication/erection experience

Awareness of geo-technical and geo-environmental issues would also be advantageous.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, 3D structural design modelling and analysis e.g. CSC SFrame and Fastrak and Superstress will be needed to be successful.

If successful you will be required to Lead and direct a small group of engineers, graduates and CAD technicians on a range of large multi-disciplinary projects predominantly within the waste and steel markets.

Analysis, design and checking of heavily loaded large scale industrial superstructures, office buildings, crane gantries.

Inspection and assessment of existing industrial structures.

Achieving the targets agreed with the Team Leader and Project Manager regarding the effective delivery of projects to current engineering and safety standards, within agreed timescales and budgets, you will be highly dedicated, dependable, good communicator and team player with initiative to ensure that goals are achieved.

Should have a 'Can do' approach to ensure delivery to client's requirements.

Applying procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of the business.

Pursue new work opportunities when possible. Secure repeat work from existing clients with timely delivery of projects and quality of deliverables.

Undertake the duties of designer as highlighted in CDM legislation.

Interface as required with Clients, sub contractors and other designers.

The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Structural Designer to work for a global leading Oil and Gas company. As a Structural Designer you'll be required to use PDMS to draft and design large modules and top sides for offshore oil and gas platforms. You'll work with engineers and other designers to develop all associated drawings and documents. You'll take a hands on role in the design and will check structures.

You
Ideally you'll be educated to a degree or HND level within a relevant discipline or you'll have the equivalent relevant experience within an Engineering role or related discipline. You'll have experience of PDMS and will have extensive experience of working in the offshore industry. You'll be able to model primary, secondary and tertiary steel, including intricate connections, tubular joints and equipment supports. Ideally you'll have experience of American and International steel sections.

Structural Engineers - All levels

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Perform engineering duties as advised under supervision of assigned, Lead Engineer, Project Manager or supervisor
Take responsibility for engineering tasks, and perform associated calculations and analysis
Ensure compliance with corporate and project QMS and HSE procedures
Supervise and co-ordinate engineers and draughtsmen
Liaise with other members of the project team
Proficient in writing and checking of design reports and calculation sheets
Have experience of preparation of procurement data sheets and material and fabrication specifications
Liaise with material and equipment suppliers
Undertake assignments in client offices, vessels or on-site
Support to bid preparation
Provide input to development of engineering methodologies and tools
Undertake research and development projects
Contribute to the Company Technical and Marketing Publications and presentations

Competencies and Experience:
5 years minimum experience with a minimum of 3 years of direct offshore structural and subsea design experience
Preferably gained experience in design engineers/consultants or installation contractors
Competent in structural design, especially in a subsea environment
Knowledge of subsea structural requirements and details
Competent in use of relevant codes and software
Construction and offshore experience desirable
Knowledge of materials and corrosion control
Project engineering experience desirable
Experience in bid preparation desirable
Knowledge of subsea pipeline design


Preferred Software Experience:
FS2000 essential
Abacus
Mathcad
MS Word and Excel

Lead Civil / Structural Engineer

Lead Civil / Structural Engineer required for an onshore oil and gas project based in Manchester.

The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer will report to the Project Engineering Manager and will be responsible for managing the delivery of the Civil/Structural discipline to meet the project requirements.


Responsibilities will include:


- ensure that the Technical Safety and Quality (technical assurance) requirements of the project are achieved by the discipline.


- managing the discipline engineers and designers to meet project schedule and discipline budget.


- the development of the discipline execution plan.


- leading and coordination the discipline team to ensure effective and efficient daily working, anticipating issues and providing mitigation measures.


- ensure progress of the discipline is regularly recorded / reported and the forecasts of task completion and overall discipline out turn are communicated to the project controls team.


- developing, in conjunction with the Project Controls team, the discipline programme.


- the coordination of the interfaces between the Electrical discipline and other disciplines on the project.


- managing change within their discipline and for ensuring impacts of change are quantified and communicated.


- Manage the data collection and site investigation work for their discipline to allow design basis to be define and tie-in points to be fully specified.


- Provide formal weekly / monthly reporting for their discipline, including input into the monthly client report.


This is a 12 month contract position based in Manchester.
