Oilfield Trucking Jobs

Home CDL Info How to Get Trucking Jobs Types of Trucking Jobs Oilfield Trucking Jobs Jobs In Trucking Thursday, November 10. 2011 Oilfield Trucking Jobs Oilfield trucking jobs are well worth the dangers involved because they offer a very lucrative income. The job can be a bit dangerous, but if a driver is looking for excitement, then he will earn a lot of money. The Oilfield truck driver has many responsibilities that a regular truck driver will not encounter. The driver hauls dangerous substances and needs to know how to secure it so there will not be an explosion.

The type of vehicle that the oilfield truck driver uses will depend on what they are hauling, and the distance that they need to go. Empty barrels, for instance, would be hauled in a flatbed truck, and the driver may just be driving inside the oilfields to make deliveries. When the oil has been barreled and must be delivered to a station, the driver must drive an enclosed truck. The oilfield truck driver normally hauls his cargo in a semi making sure that everything is secure for the open highway. The oilfield truck driver is experienced at handling any type of content. They must be able to control any problems with leakage or possible combustion. Oilfield truck driving jobs require dedication and hard work to understand how to perform this task safely and prevent accidents.

Just like other trucking jobs, the oilfield truck driver must have gone to truck driving school and earned his CDL. The driver must pass the state driving test, be twenty-one years old, and of sound mind. Often, the driver is drug and alcohol tested to make sure that he is not under the influence of anything that would hinder his ability to handle a semi-truck and hazardous chemicals. Just because a driver is an oilfield truck driver does not mean that, he is just hauling oil. Many times these drivers are required to haul other types of chemicals that need to be transported in the process of the work.

The oilfield companies generally provide the drivers with the type of insurance that they need to haul chemicals or any type of substance that could be harmful or dangerous. This is the type of hauling job that could be dangerous to the truck driver if he is not familiar with how to handle the things they are hauling. The oilfield truck driver needs to know the chemical compounds of his loads and how to clean them up safely if an accident occurs. He also needs to know how to contain any substance so that it will not leak or become a danger to the public while it is in transit.

The oilfield companies are aware of the dangers that the drivers are under and the responsibilities that they have when they are working. That is why oilfield truck driving jobs offer a very lucrative wage with excellent benefits. Oilfield truck drivers need to be experienced enough to handle their job in a professional manner. Oilfield truck drivers usually work in pairs. The experienced driver takes command training and assists in training the newer driver. It is a difficult job with many dangers to face, but when a driver is properly trained, very few accidents happen and the salary and benefits are amazing.

Though advancements in technology in communication through cellular phones and the internet has made it possible for people to share information between one another without the need to physically transport themselves, it is still necessary for physical goods to be transported using motor vehicles. This is where the services of truck drivers come in, and it is still necessary to understand the different jobs that are available in this field, especially if a driver is interested in being part of the system.

These are some of the popular types of driving jobs:

The job is very demanding, as a driver may be required to spend many days away from his home and family. To reduce the burden of being lonely, some drivers may even work in teams with a member of the family, such as his wife.
Specialized Trucking- This driving job requires a driver to handle trucks containing sensitive, oversized, or unusual items. It also involves traveling to long-distant locations. Some examples of the trucking are dry bulk carriers, auto carriers, (permitted) oversized and overweight loads, or triple and double trailers.
Construction Site Driving Job- This driving job requires the driver to handle big construction vehicles that are used on construction sites. He will be required to handle vehicles such as bulldozers, dump trucks, front loaders, backhoes/excavators and cranes. This job requires a special permit and training to handle the different materials that you will be moving from one location to another.

Many opportunities exist for truck drivers from small cities to big ones, and if a driver is doing his research properly, he will always come across different types of driving jobs that require the handling of different types of vehicles.
