Elsewedy Electric Signs $169m Power Plant Deal

Elsewedy Electric (SWDY), the leading wire cable and integrated energy solution provider in the Middle East and Africa, through one of its subsidiaries, announces the signing of a US$ 169 Million contract in Iraq with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity to build and operate a new power plant in Diwaniya, with four 125 MW General Electric gas turbines.

The gas-fired 500 megawatt power projects is located 23 km west of Aldiwaniya city and shall be completed within 18-months on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) basis. The contract does not include the supply of the four GE gas turbines that have already been purchased by the Government of Iraq from General Electric in a mega deal that consisted of 56 gas turbines in 2008.

Elsewedy Electric’s scope of work includes design, procurement and installation of all balance of plant in addition to the erection and testing of the GE gas turbines. In addition, Elsewedy Electric will be responsible for the spare parts and six months of operation and maintenance after the completion of the project.

The Arab Contractors will be responsible for all the civil, construction and site utilities for the project.

Iraq, holder of the world’s fifth-largest oil reserves, is struggling to raise power supplies, which are currently at about 7,500 megawatts, or half of its domestic demand of about 15,000 megawatts.

Elsewedy Electric’s first office in Iraq was opened in 2006 in Erbil.

STX Wins $150m Power Plant Order

South Korea’s STX Heavy Industries has said it has won a $150-million order to construct and operate a power plant in Amara, in Missan province.

Under the turnkey contract signed with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity, STX will take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the plant for a year after its completion.

It will be equipped with four 125-megawatt gas turbines, and is to be completed by June 2014.

A 200-MW, diesel-fueled station to the north of Amara was also built by STX and opened in June.

Reuters reports that in July STX won a $195-million contract from a consortium led by Italian energy company ENI to build an oil and gas processing plant in Basra.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a company which focuses on maintaining and extending the life of power plants across the world. As Project Manager you will undertake Project Delivery as directed by the manager of Projects and Engineering.

Key Duties in this role will include:
To undertake Project Delivery as directed by the Manager of Projects and Engineering, to act as the Project Delivery Point of Contact
Direct and manage all aspects of multi-discipline EPC projects from inception through completion
From Sales Handover, define base line scope, programmes and allowances together with the procedures for management of requests for change to allowance/budgets in advance of Project Execution Plan issue
Preparation of the Project Execution Plan for the execution of all project activities in accordance with the Company Business Operating Procedures and specific Client/contract requirements
Develop the organisational structure for a multi-disciplined team from nominated resources essential for the successful execution of the project
Define the policies and processes for clear communications to all parties involved in the project
Manage the preparation and regular update of the Project Schedule against which all project deliverables are monitored and controlled
Initiate and review engineering design, procurement, manufacturing, shipping, sub-contract, project operations and site activity to ensure compliance with project specifications, schedule requirements and Company legal obligations
Optimise completion of deliverables, equipment and services for most cost effective shipment to Client's site
Review Project Financial status and manage change control, taking action to mitigate liability for overrun, variations or third party claims
Report progress in compliance with the Project Execution Plan mandates
Assist and support the Sales, Marketing and Proposals initiatives as directed from time to time as a function of Projects Group Departmental duties

The ideal candidate will be qualified in a related engineering discipline and will have experience of working in a mechanical/electrical engineering EPC environment. You will have a proven track record as a Project Manager and in executing multi-disciplined EPC projects from inception to completion.
You will also have site management experience of multi-disciplined site construction, plant installation, testing and commissioning of project work.

 Principal Plant Layout Designer required using Microstation and Autocad on onshore oil and gas projects.

Principal Plant Layout Designer required to develop and prepare optimised plant layouts through the conceptual, study, and FEED phases of projects using sound documented reasoning and innovative techniques.

The ideal candidate will have a cost focus approach in driving the layout development in a way that minimises installed plant operation costs whilst ensuring that constructability and operational safety and maintenance requirements are appropriately addressed. In this role, you will provide quality plant layout input for proposals and support of business winning.

You will provide plant layout consultancy to support FEED, Project Management Consultants (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) detailed engineering projects.

This will begin as a 3 month contract but is expected to go on longer.
