Trophy of the Week Archive | Cody

It’s that time of year, ladies and gentlemen. The time of year where the calls of migratory birds coming in from overhead is no longer a tease, but is a reason to get your heart pumping. This week’s trophy comes to you from the marshes of Louisiana, from our friend Cody who is an Oilfield Man himself. He and his hunting friends hit the fields in an attempt to hit their limit of specks. The details below are his own words on their opening day experience.

“We loaded our gear onto the 4 wheeler and headed to the blind. We got to the blind, unloaded the bike, and Mr. Craig took off to hide it as me and Jacob put out our decoy spread. Once we finished up, we all got in the blind and checked the time. It was 6 am, and shooting time was in 2 minutes. By the time we got situated and loaded up, it was time. I stood up to look around and heard the sound of my first flock of the season and they were coming towards us. I started calling and had them locked up. After a few passes, the group of about 10 specks was making their last pass over the blind and we cut loose dropping 4. I picked them up and the first bird to hit the dirt of the year had a band on it, and it was claimed by Mr. Craig. As soon as I got back in the blind another group was headed right our way. We worked them right in after just 2 passes and killed 3 out of the small group. That gave us 7 birds, 1 shy of our limit. Before I could get back in the blind, another group was already almost over the us. I hurried and jumped in and started calling. This time, it was a big group of about 20 birds, all calling and cutting up. Once they made that final approach, we turned Mr. E.P. loose to finish off the limit and he dropped one on the first shot. I checked the time and it was 6:13 AM, an 11 minute hunt. We didn’t even have time to enjoy our satsumas during the hunt!”

Congrats to Cody and the rest of the crew! Great Job, and be sure to pack your lucky Oilfield Camo every time! Do YOU have a great story and picture of your Oilfield Camo hunting experience? Send it in, you could win FREE Oilfield Camo Swag!
