$50,000 gift made for STEM study at Texas A&M San Antonio

Scholarships for the study of science, tech, engineering and math at Texas A&M University-San Antonio got a boost today as a result of a $50,000 gift.

The gift is from the San Antonio chapter of the American Petroleum Institute, a national oil and gas trade association.

The scholarship money aligns with a major initiative of the university, which plans to produce more graduates in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math). Such graduates are in demand, especially by companies with a presence in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas.

Mark Franki, chairman of the institute’s San Antonio chapter, along with Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier, president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio, presented the check to the Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation.
