Zawya reports that Iraq’s government will invite international tenders for the Middle Euphrates Airport in Karbala before the end of December this year.
Dr Abbas Hassani, the head of the Construction and Strategic Planning Committee in the provincial council, said:
“Aeroports de Paris Ingenierie (ADPi) has completed the design, which cost $42m. The Iraqi Ministry of Transportation will invite offers next month.”In its first phase, the airport will have the capacity to serve six million passengers annually. The project will include the construction terminal buildings, a runway and aircraft gates.
The airport will be developed in three phases, with capacity increased to 12 million per year in phase II and 20 million once completed. It will be built on a site of 45,000 m2 at a cost of $3bn.
