Hi there! We would like to find an intern to assist in viewing and logging archival footage from recent historical events for a feature length documentary which is currently in production.

This is a perfect opportunity for a film student who would like to see the ins and outs of the backend of documentary filmmaking and you will receive screen and IMDB credit for your work on the project. We are not using news broadcast footage, so this would NOT entail watching talking heads or TV interviews, or logging bulk dialogue. The archival footage consists of cell phone, security, and home video footage, raw footage from news crews on the ground, as well as a small amount of older historical footage.

Hours are flexible, and the total length of the internship commitment will be tailored to your program's requirements.

One to two days per week will be spent in our office/editing studio in Topanga Canyon (so you need to have YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION) and you will need to spend some additional hours per week reviewing and logging footage from home. This is an unpaid internship, but you will be given a stipend for gas on days you drive to the Canyon.

Logging will be done via a Google Docs spreadsheet where you will enter basic details about the video's content, name, time of day, approximate length, etc. You will also be looking for numbers/identifiers on public safety vehicles and identifying law enforcement officers in the footage, when possible (from a small list of officers with pictures included). This is not difficult work -- especially compared to internships which mainly consist of making coffee runs or answering phones all day -- so you will be expected to complete your work with a high level of attentiveness to details and careful maintenance of your logs. Your work will be checked regularly, so please don't waste your time or ours by applying if you do not think you will be able to commit to this work fully.

This is a great chance to work closely with talented individuals. We will provide you with a letter of recommendation and will remain available in the future as references for your resume or for general advice and mentorship. Not too long ago, we were interns too - so we want to make sure that you walk away from this project having actually learned new skills and gained a valuable experience for your resume. None of the typical entertainment industry internship bullshit here, and you will never ever ever ever have to make somebody coffee, change light bulbs, run endless errands, etc. etc. If you are interested, this internship could extend to learning the basics of editing on Final Cut 7 or 10 and assisting in basic editing cleanup.
