CAC is assisting communities to develop and run a planning-focused neighborhood association. The neighborhood association, Motor Avenue Improvement Association (a cooperative organization of businesses and professional firms, property owners, and residents) advocates for smart growth and expansion. CAC is looking for a current undergraduate or graduate student to assist in coordinating the work of the neighborhood association on a part-time basis. This is a unique opportunity for someone to learn hands on what it takes to develop a community master plan, work toward consensus, directly collaborate with community groups, developers and elected officials, and have an impact on the future of a community. Candidates will not find a better hands on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be responsible for helping with the following:
- Tracking and reviewing local development projects and related legislation
- Developing vision for the neighborhood that meets the needs of the existing residents and businesses
- Meeting with developers, local government officials, city planning departments, and the public
- Attending public hearings
- Creating outreach materials
- Planning and organizing community events
- Maintaining membership database

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates currently enrolled in a university and completing coursework related to urban planning will be given greater consideration. No experience is required, but successful candidates will exhibit the following characteristics:
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures of city planning
- Familiarity with land use regulations at the federal, state, and local level
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (public speaking experience a plus)
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Computer literacy
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Professionalism
