Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for the maintenance and development of the Foundation's relationships with relevant policy-related entities and influential individuals, as well as the initiation and execution of through analysis of various policy issues as needed.

Duties:
? Maintain and establish relationships with local and state government offices, and their appropriate staff.
? Attend appropriate municipal council and state and local agency meetings including but not limited to Los Angeles.
? Animal Services Commission meetings and other relevant events as necessary.
? Identify local, state, and national policy issues of interest to the Foundation, and develop and execute an overall strategic plan for evaluating these issues.
? Identify best practices in animal welfare policy, consolidate findings into comprehensive summaries, and educate staff about findings relevant to their program.
? Prepare and deliver presentations outlining policy findings at relevant local and national animal welfare Conferences.
? Monitor relevant policy proposals, analyze potential impact, and prepare summaries for the Found Animals Executive staff.
? Assist Executive Director and Chief of Staff with preparation of presentations for conferences, board meetings, and other relevant appearances.
? Collaborate with Found Animals staff and outside contacts on additional special projects as necessary.
? Develop financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
? Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies in the areas of policy and animal welfare.

Skills/Qualifications:
? 4+ years experience as a Legislative or Policy Analyst for a non-profit or governmental entity, or similar role.
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
? Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with government officials.
? Motivated self-starter with great attitude, flexibility, and entrepreneurial spirit.
? Knowledge of animal welfare policy issues is preferred but not required.
? Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
